Reworking the game content and graphics.
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:01:15 pm »
Greetings Emperors!

Since Battlestar is a lot ogame-like we have decided to move on and rework the game. The things we think that should be reworked are: buildings, spaceships, defenses, researches, descriptions, game interface, the game name.
The game interface will be focused on a terrain with buildings on it.
Also we will be adding android support on the process so at latest version the game will be available on android.
Game mechanics will stay pretty much the same.

List of changes and their progress:
- Buildings ------------------ 100% complete
- Terrains -------------------- 100% complete
- Moon Terrain ------------- 100% complete
- Spaceships --------------- 100% complete
- Defenses    --------------- 100% complete
- Researches --------------- 99% complete
- Game Interface ---------- 100% complete
- Design rework ----------- 70% complete
- Engine rework ------------77% complete
- Tutorial -------------------- 10% complete
- Android release ----------- 25% complete

Here is some of the content:

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Any help in the process, opinions, suggestions /game name suggestions/ are reviewed and appreciated.

The artwork is cool.  A new name would be okay.
I think there are maybe 8 active players now.
The real drop off in interest in Battlestar came from the constant changes in game mechanics.
I want to point out that it has become more Ogame like over time.
It is now a very different game then when I first started playing.
I was first attracted to playing Battlestar  because it was NOT Ogame.
Ogame boils down to one thing.  Fleet timing.  That's it that's the whole game.
So it get's boring fast.  Battlestar has become the same thing.

You don't want to have a "pay to win game".
But I also think that some of the original concepts of Battlestar were cool.
So perhaps bringing back some of the original concepts and game mechanics would helps.
Perhaps do what has been done in some very successful smartphone games like Clash of Clans.
Clash of Clans allows for pay to win but it limits how much anyone user can purchase in a day.
That way they get 80 people paying 1 euro instead of 1 player paying 80 euros.
(Actually in there case it's more like 50 million, but that just shows that it works as a business model)

One feature of Ogame that I think should be added is with planetary defenses.
In Ogame some percentage of planetary defenses would auto regenerate after an attack.
I think that would help make them useful.  I also think that uncapping the missile silo size would make it better.
As it is now planetary defenses are completely pointless.
Uncapping the limit on ODB's would also be a game changer and make stationary defenses more practical.
That would at least allow for a variety of strategies beyond just fleet timing (which gets very boring).

Those are my thoughts on it anyways.

Just a few thoughts from a new player. I haven't played oGame before, just started today after seeing the previous post about it, but is clear that Battlestar was intended as a clone of it- with some succesfull improvements in a few areas of course. It's a totally bad idea. If two games are nearly identical people will usually go to the one with more players - I'm analyzing this possibility too right now. The new artwork seems to to the job , at least visual, but if game mechanics will be the same it will not make a very important difference. The speed server is cool , i suggest to keep it.
Also, as suggested above by BOB, change the name. You should find something easier to find on google. Searching for "battlestar" gives a thousand links to battlestar galactica, which doesn't help at getting new players in here - i got here only by checking a list of browser mmos.
Just these thoughts for now. Of course I also know is easier to just talk than to do and how hard is to just design a good system, not to mention to code and implement it. So I wish the best of luck and see you ingame !  ;D
